Parents
Norman Career Services (NCS) is staffed with trained
professionals who are ready to help students with free
career development tools, including: lifelong use of the
online Discover program (a software tool to aid in
career decision making, such as choosing a major, required
pre-requisites, federal aid, graduate schools, and more);
campus interviews, career fairs, resume writing critiques,
mock interviews, job search and business etiquette
workshops. The NCS website list of full-time career
positions, internship opportunities, and part-time jobs is
updated daily. Non-profit, governmental and education jobs
are posted on the Monster-TRAK system, which is also free to
ATU students and alumni. Other features include salary
statistics, current career-related articles, and links to
other appropriate websites.
Although placement is not guaranteed, those students who
choose the option of registering with NCS have an 86%
placement rate (2003), as compared to 55% for those who do
not register. Plus, entry level salaries for registrants
average in the low to mid 30’s, while non-registrants
average in the teens.
A Career Planning Course for Parents and
A
Parents’ Guide to Career Development are two great
articles to help give you peace of mind, as well as provide
ways in which you can motivate your student to prepare for
the professional working world.
Please accept this invitation to take a few moments,
whenever you are on campus, to tour Norman Career Services
(211 Doc Bryan Building), and meet the staff. |
